On August 6, 2019, the Salina Journal reported on the upcoming opening of the Lee Hardware Lofts inside the historic former home of the H.D. Mercantile Company.
The newly renovated building will include 53 living units and 4,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor, which will host businesses only a few short blocks from the downtown center.
Overland Property Group, who purchased the building in June, says the project team has been working with state and national historic associations to maintain the building’s historic integrity and preserve some of its iconic features.
The Lee Hardware Lofts will be the first new residential building as part of the downtown revitalization efforts and is expected to be completed before the Smoky Hill River Festival in June of 2020.
